FACEPLANT SKATE TOUR 2007 - Clackamas

CLACKAMAS SKATE PARK **
Today, October 27, 2007, Josh, Boomer, Jake, Brandon, Victor M., Eric and I continued our FacePlant Skate Tour by heading to Clackamas Skate Park. The park is a bit small and its' vert stuff is similar to Swift Skate Park (which I personally don't like). There really isn't much to skate. The street course has pretty sketchy transitions which makes it hard to get enough speed. The fellas landed some pretty good tricks and the trick of the day goes to Victor Marquay for landing a sick nose slide down the entire hubba. You can check out the video on the blog as well. Overall, I give the park a 2 star rating.

Whipple Creek Grand Opening - S.K.A.T.E. Comp and BBQ

S.K.A.T.E. COMPETITION AND BBQ
As part of our Grand Opening Week at Whipple Creek Church, we had a parent/student night during what would normally be SkateChurch on Thursday, October 18, 2007. It turned out to be a great night. A lot of parents and students came out and ate some BBQ and enjoyed the S.K.A.T.E.competition. It was great to meet all the parents who came out. And a special thank you to all the volunteers who made the night possible. The S.K.A.T.E. competition was sick!!! We had four brackets and four trophies were awarded to the winners of the finals in each bracket. Here are the results:
.
UNSPONSORED BRACKET #1:
Josh Keen defeated Joseph Nguyen.
.
UNSPONSORED BRACKET #2:
Justin Joy defeated Dane Chavez.
.
SPONSORED BRACKET #1:

.
SPONSORED BRACKET #2:

CONGRATULATIONS to all competetors! Especially to the winners. The competition was tight. Keep your ear to the ground for future competitions.

SPECIAL GUEST SPEAKER RON HEAGY
We had a real treat that night. Special guest speaker, Ron Heagy brought us the message, and let me tell you, HE BROUGHT IT. Ron lost the ability to move his body from the neck down in a surfing accident when he was 17 years old. He has out-lived most others who have been in his position. From his wheelchair he gave an awesome message full of personal stories and God's Word. He had us laughing one minute and crying in the next. The coolest thing is that his invitation for people to accept Christ wasn't a raise of hands, but a tapping of the skateboards to the ground. A total of 15 young people made first-time decisions to receive Christ and many others made redeications. Thank you ROn and family for coming out and being God's instruments. We have now seen 160 young people saved at FacePlant Ministries since January of 2006. Praise the Lord for wll that He has done and is doing.

Whipple Creek Grand Opening - Battle of the Bands

BATTLE OF THE BANDS
As part of our Whipple Creek Grand Opening Week we had a Battle of the Bands on Tuesday, October 16, 2007, when we normally have our FacePlant Middle School and High School youth groups. This was an awesome night where 6 local Christian bands got to perform and compete for who the crowd voted as the best band. Really, it was more about connecting young people to Christ and getting local Christain acts more exposure then competition. The 6 bands that came out and played were: (1) Casey Marvin, (2) Paper Rings, (3) Left Lane Ends, (4) Hearts Unfold, (5) Styful and (6) The Neverclaim. All of the bands were phenominal. The band who had the most votes ended up being Styful, though the competition was close. One of our church members, Jerry Morris, made a sweet trophy for the winner. The winner also received a gift certificate to Musician's Friend. We had drawings where bands donated t-shirts and CD's as prizes. I just really want to thanks all of the bands who came out and played. It was such a great night. We packed the place out with people who were brought nearer to God through your music, guys. Thanks so much. We will definitely be doing more shows. We also had other youth groups come out and participate in Batle of the Bands. Thanks Simeon for bringing your group out from Calvary Chapel. Hope they had a blast. A special thanks to: Jackson Jackson, worship pastor at Whipple Creek Church who really headed this whole thing up; Andrew Young for lining up so many sweet bands; Tracey Jackson for the sweet-o pictures; Becky Manning for all the preparations you made; Brett Aljets for having such a huge vision; and all the other volunteers who helped make that night happen.
