FEBRUARY 2008 SKATE COMP RESULTS

SKATE COMPETITION RESULTS.
Last week, on Thursday, February 21, 2008 we had our sixth ever FacePlant Skate Competition at Skate Church and it was SICK! We actually had three competitions all "jam-style." We had guys compete against each other on the spine, on the box and on the kicker. Points were awarded for how many tricks were landed as well as how technical the tricks were. Trophies were awarded for 1st through 4th place. Results were as follows:
.
SPINE COMPETITION:
1st Place: Cody Bell, 2nd Place: Ricky Brewer, 3rd Place: Kyle Ponciano, 4th Place: Austin Young.
.
BOX COMPETITION:
1st Place: Kyle Ponciano, 2nd Place: Caleb Slagle, 3rd Place: Travis Reeder, 4th Place: Nick Polette.
.
KICKER COMPETITION:
1st Place: Kyle Ponciano, 2nd Place: Travis Reeder, 3rd Place: Caleb Slagle, 4th Place: Brandon Clymer.
.
Congratulations to all of you guys and good job to all of you who competed. I purposely didn't promote this competition too heavily in order to give some of our regulars a chance to win some trophies. I did let everyone know, though, through announcements that they needed to come every week for a month if they didn't want to miss out. Sorry to all of you who couldn't make it. My hope in doing this is that you will come out to SkateChurch not just for the bling-bling, but to hear about God week in and week out. Ask yourself, "Why do I go to SkateChurch?" My hope is that someday in the future, when you look at those trophies on your shelves, that you will remember how it was Jesus Christ, the big J.C., who saved you and carried you through all the good and bad times during your youth.

NEW FACEPLANT ARTWORK

NEW FACEPLANT ARTWORK BY TIM HULL.
We are so blessed at FacePlant Ministries to have a lot of volunteers who have been gifted by God in different areas. Tim Hull has been volunteering time at FacePlant Ministries over the past two years. He is very artistic and is responsible for creating our original FacePlant logo. Tim now attends Clark College and is taking a class on Adobe Photoshop. He has come up with three new logo ideas. Please feel free to comment and let us know which one you like best...which one you could see on a t-shirt, sticker or skateboard.

FACEPLANT SKATE TOUR 2008 - Lincoln City

.

LINCOLN CITY SKATE PARK ***
FacePlant Ministries had its Winter Camp on the Oregon Coast in Rockaway by default this year. The cool thing is, that Lincoln City, about an hour south of where we were staying had a somewhat covered skate park. The problem is, the rain and wind were so bad that the covered part was still wet, which made for tough skating conditions. On top of that it was stinking cold. After a while part of the park was dry enough to skate for a while. Josh, Robbie, Ricky, Cody, Kyle, Chris Cory, Eric and I were all present. They all ripped even with the tough conditions. Under the covered area is a really small street section with a table-top, couple of ledges and a rail in the middle with two quarter pipes on either side. It is a bit hard to get a lot of speed because the street course is so short. If the weather is good, this would be a vert skater's paradise with a nice covered big bowl section and a new huge half-pipe slalom section being built. The locals there are super good at vert and trip out on anyone that can skate "tech." Seeing as we didn't have a chance to skate the entire park, I give it a 3 star rating for the mere size of it, especially with the addition they are constructing.

WINTER CAMP 2008

WINTER CAMP 2008
We had an awesome time at Winter Camp 2008. We were supposed to go to Camp Davidson in Sisters, Oregon for the weekend, but we have been having record snow up in the Cascades this past few weeks and Highway 20 was shut down making it impossible for us to go to Camp Davidson. The cool thing is that God totally opened up the door for us to have our Winter Camp 2008 at Twin Rocks Camp in Rockaway, Oregon on the Oregon Coast. They just happened to have an opening the day before we were to have our camp. Thank you God for your provision!
.
We had around 25 middle school and high school students in attandance as well as 10 staff members and an awesome band called "The New Divide." Eric Nelson, a youth pastor in Woodland (also guitarist for The New Divide) came and spoke on being painted into God's masterpiece based on Ephesians 2:10. He also spoke a lot from the book of Jeremiah. He did an awesome job speaking and relaying God's message to the young people. The New Divide did a phenomenal job leading us into God's presence through worship and original music as well. We had intense small group times after the teachings, one student actually gave his heart to Christ in the small group setting. There was also a great ministry time one evening where many young people came to receive prayer.
.
The camp provided a killer environment for fun with a huge gym with lots of games and activities. Some went to the Tillamook Cheese factory on Saturday while others went to Lincoln City skate park. A group headed to the beach for a while as well. Zach, as he usually does, led the youth in a great night game of "Capture the Fish" (A variation of "Capture the Flag"), so sorry parents if your kids' clothes smelled a bit fishy. We had a movie night on Saturday night where we ate pocorn and ice cream and watch "The Chronicles of Narnia." And even though there wasn't any snow at camp, we made a stop in the coastal range for a nice snowball fight on the way back home. It was a great time. Thanks to everyone involved.
